‘Side Profile Selfie’ Challenge: Breaking the Big nose Taboos

By: Rachelyn Pabines

Women are sharing their ‘#SideProfileSelfie’ picture in the social media, it is a campaign that went viral on Twitter to break the big nose taboos and to encourage everyone to embrace their unique noses and shatter beauty standards.

The new campaign ‘Side Profile Selfie’ movement started after a freelance journalist and author Radhika Sanghani posted a side profile picture of herself on her twitter account showing off her big nose.

She posted it on Tuesday, February 20, 8:20am. On her post, she was encouraging people to love their noses no matter what the sizes of it, breaking the perception of beauty.

She started her new campaign after she posted on her twitter saying “Breaking the big nose taboo with my new campaign on the #sideprofileselfie!! Let’s stop hating our noses for not being tiny, little snubs and learn to love them by sharing a #sideprofileselfie

Her #SideProfileSelfie movement challenges people specifically women who have insecurities to their noses to be proud of it. She wants them to feel beautiful and attractive despite of not having a perfect snub little ski-slope of a nose.

“I grew up thinking that you can’t be beautiful unless you have a snub little ski-slope of a nose, like Kate Middleton or Mila Kunis, -- and I know other women have too. There just aren’t enough larger-nosed ladies with stereotypically ‘hot’ roles in movies or ad campaigns to make us think an aquiline profile can be pretty.” She writes on Grazia

Radhika’s #SideProfileSelfie movement’s post quickly caught the attention of the netizens particularly women who immediately response by posting their own version of side profile selfie showing their noses and loving it naturally

One of the twitter user Holly Henderson captioned her side profile selfie with, “Absolutely in LOVE with @radhikasanghani’s #sideprofileselfie trend. We’re fed a limited Western idea of beauty, & people with noses like mine often feel like we need to change. It feels so good to look at all these pictures and see the beauty in my own Arab nose.”

Another one, Breewhan shared her side profile selfie saying. “I’ve always hated and been made fun of for the appearance of my nose. I’m so glad this is a thing! This is empowering and truly amazing. I’m proud of everyone who has posted photos and shared their stories”

And another woman Simran Kular bravely tweet her insecurities about it, “I’ve always been insecure of my nose and it’s always secretly brought me down, especially because of the silenced around the topic. I’m grateful for what you are doing @radhikasanghani !so many of us are keeping these feelings trapped inside. #SideProfileSelfie”

People are now talking about this, inspired by how Radhika’s #SideProfileSelfie movement would break down the big nose taboo. Her campaign is reminding people to learn how to appreciate and to feel confident to their noses. People are happily joining her campaign and supporting it by posting their #SideProfileSelfie challenge that will help everyone to overcome their insecurities and shatter beauty standards by loving what they have.
