Filling the gaps: 5 ways to help you reconnect your faith this Holy Week

by: Rachelyn Pabines

Faith is one of the significant values of Filipino culture, it is more than a belief or a values that Filipino people gives importance with because faith is ‘believing to the unseen things that is beyond human minds can reach or understand’.

For faith is the assurance of things that we hoped to happen, it is our confidence and trust that we have put to God.

What if you lose faith in the midst of storms of life, or your faith to God is not as strong as before?

Here are five things you need to remember that will help you boost, strengthen, and replenish your faith:

      1.       Prayer

Prayer is one of the basic needs of our faith. It is a connection between man and God; it is a way of our communication to start a converse with Him. It is the most powerful weapon against difficulties and trials or every time we encounter unexpected things or situation in our lives yet we often set aside our time to seek God in our Prayer.

Prayer is one of the key to restore our relationship to God because it connects us to Him that we may enter His presence. It’s a way of presenting our whole being to Him without pretensions because we all know that God is listening and wouldn’t judge us despite of all the flaws, mistakes, failures, and sins we commit. God is a loving and forgiving Father who will answer and accepts us.

It is a tool so that we can renew our faith in Him, just remember that prayer is a wireless and priceless connection that will lead us to God who is available 24/7.

      2.       Meditate His word

God’s word is in the Bible which is the Book of Truth for everything that is written on it are His words but we can’t just easily comprehend what exactly the message of it for us unless we meditate it. Reading and meditating are different from each other, you can understand it literally by just reading it, but you cannot get the depth of its message except if you meditate it.

The word of God will help us to strengthen our faith and to rebuild our relationship with Him if we somehow lost our way. It is like a map that will direct us to the right track of our lives. His words are lamps on our feet and light to our path as it is written in the bible. It will also guide us to discover who really God is, His capabilities to do greater things in our lives, His best plans for us, His promises and different principles that will teach us how to stand firm in faith in this world full of circumstances.

      3.       Repentance

Restoring our faith needs repentance by admitting to God that we have sinned against Him. We are all humans and we often stumble on our faith because nobody is perfect, but the good thing is, we can always repent and come before God. However, repenting is not just all about admitting your mistakes or sins to Him but it is a promise that you will do your best to live a life according to His will.

Sincerity is the main ingredient of repentance because God is not listening to the words that come out from your mouth but to what your heart is telling. What is on your heart is that matters and when you ask God for forgiveness with a sincere heart He will accept and embrace you with open arms.

God is a forgiving God, especially when He sees the sincerity of man’s heart repenting for his old ways of living.

      4.       Humility

Faith needs humility. Repentance is impossible without acknowledging your own flaws and lapses and by recognizing it, you need to be humble first. Humility is letting yourself be out of your pride and selfishness, acknowledging that you cannot do all things on your own without the help of God.

Humble persons attracts God’s attention because its shows not your own strength but it reflects the power of God through your weaknesses. To be restored in faith is to be humble first and foremost.

      5.       Commitment

Commitment is a covenant between you and God. It is a promise to live a life according to His will, though there are times that we are failing on our own commitment to God, but we can also renew it to help our faith be restored.

It is an act of obeying God that goes beyond your limits. It is not just a simple promise but a commitment that you will do things no matter what it takes, not compromising your faith, because your commitment is an agreement that you and God made.
