Fact or bluff: Uson as women’s role model

by: Maricris Guerrero

From sex guru to women’s role model. Real quick.

If a person were to pick his woman role model, he would definitely pick her mother or grandmother, but Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was different as he chose Communication Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson as his role model in light of International Women’s Day.

For Roque, Uson is a role model for women because she has the potential to make an impact on the lives of many people through her popular social media account where she posts her opinions and updates about the president.

“Naniniwala talaga ako na modelo si Mocha Uson para sa ating kababaihan dahil si Mocha Uson, nakikita natin nagdesisyon siyang magbagong-buhay at talaga namang nagpupursige dito sa kanyang bagong buhay,” Roque said on Friday in a Facebook live interview.

Meanwhile, Akbayan Representative Tom Villarin said that female revolutionary Gabriela Silang would not have approved of Mocha Uson as a role model for women.

“Mocha as Roque’s role model for women must have made Gabriela Silang turn in her grave and pick her bolo to strike both of them bluntly in their butts – shame to both!” Villarin stated in his Twitter account.

Uson was the leader of Mocha Girls, known for its scantily clad members who perform provocative dance numbers, before she became a devoted supporter of President Duterte.

However, Roque knocked Uson’s detractors who use her previous job as an entertainer against her.

“Kinakailangan mabuhay. Kinakailangan magbigay ng sustento sa pamilya. Gagawin mo ang dapat gawin, pero ‘yong parte ng buhay na ‘yon ni Mocha tapos na,” Roque said. “Walang kahit sino ang pwedeng sabihin na hindi pwedeng magkaroon ng pangalawang pagkakataon.”

Uson was appointed to her government post in 2017, enjoys her widely-followed Facebook page, MOCHA USON Blog, to share news—real or otherwise—favorable to the president.

Senators have called Mocha Uson out to use her power as a social media blogger wisely, after a of series mistakes on her page – including fake news, and inaccurate photographs

It is a kind of drama or a play that is usually played in provinces like in Bulacan during the time of Holy Week. ]in Hagonoy, Bulacan, Senakulo happens every year.
