DOT, DILG eye 60-day Boracay shutdown

Department of Tourism Secretary, Wanda Teo and Department of Interior and Local Government officer-in-charge, Eduardo Año push 60-day business establishments shutdown as part of Boracay’s six-month long rehabilitation.

Teo and Año alongside Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary, Roy Cimatu were the ones tasked by President Rodrigo Duterte to take charge on studying and recommending solutions to attend the island’s rehabilitation, Duterte gave them half of a year to do the job.

The country’s top tourist destination island redevelopment sights to restore Boracay’s glory through major island clean-ups and addressing matters regarding the attraction’s poor sewerage system.

Duterte once warned the closure of what he calls Boracay as “cesspool" if environmental issues will still not be addressed within the six months.

He added that if the situation continues, the attraction might drive tourists away considering health and sanitary factors.

Meanwhile, DOT Assistant Secretary, Frederick Alegre clarified there is still no specific dates for the shutdown, however they are considering months of June to September, where lesser tourists visit Boracay.

On the other hand, residents and business owners claiming to be compliant the law and ordinances, slammed the idea of a total business shutdown, pointing out only violators should only the ones to suffer against the closure.

Furthermore, Aklan’s local government unit admits the province does not have any alternate financial or livelihood support for local workers who may lose their form of living for the poised 60-day shutdown of the island.

By this time, there are still no prior recommendations and programs are laid by the national government regarding Boaracay residents and business owner’s appeal.

A senate probe tackling Boracay’s rehabilitation is still on going as the government examine further ways to restore Boracay’s dying beauty.

It is a kind of drama or a play that is usually played in provinces like in Bulacan during the time of Holy Week. ]in Hagonoy, Bulacan, Senakulo happens every year. It is played by professional or youth actors. It is noticeable how the actors are playing good as well. Every year is different. It is beautiful, well prepared as may see it, from the staff, stage productions, costumes, the scripts and even the characters were amazing. This year, Senakulo will be presented in a different way. Pretty sure that it would be fantastic. That will be exciting. That will be a great idea especially for the kids in the younger ages. They will know what happen to the history of Jesus before he was crucified in the cross for us.
