Guiguinto- Hundreds of bonsai hobbyists are expected to participate and showcase their masterpiece artworks at forth coming celebration of Halamanan Festival in this town known as the 'Garden Plants and Landscaping' capital of the country.

The much awaited fiesta, which has become a tourist destination outside of the famed-Panagbenga festival of Baguio City, top bills an array of creative floats adorned with the most colorful and attractive flowers from thousands of garden and plant shops in the town. From a dozen of floats during its early years, the number of participating floats from the 14 barangays has swelled to over 50 include participants from other LGUS of Bulacan.

Some of the more recent attractions, especially to children, are floats in the shapes of snake, bees, beetle, grasshoppers, ants, frogs, and other insects that are attracted to the scent of garden flowers. Engr. Cecilio 'Boy' Reyes, president of the Bulacan Bonsai & Suiseki Society, said he is optimistic the next year's bonsai competition, will attract a much bigger field of bonsai enthusiasts than the 1st Bonsai completion last year.

Reyes said the enthusiasm and whole-hearted support of Guiguinto Mayor Ambrosio 'Boy' Cruz bonsai lovers enthusiasts have provided the boost of BBSS members to prepare their award-winning-entrees for the much-coveted competition next year.

Mayor Cruz, who has steered the phenomenal progress of the town since he became mayor in 2001, said the annual Halamanan Festival has seen meteoric rise in its popularity based on the huge crowds that line along Mcarthur highway during the parade of floats. Guiguinto is a first class municipality and boasts of being the first and only ISO-certified minicipality all over the country.

Senakulo: Lenten play of the Passion of Jesus Christ

by Maja del Rosario Senakulo is a tradition play here in the Philippines that tells the story of Jesus Christ before and after he was crucified on the cross. Foreigners and and even fellow Filipinos are amazed how senakulo is played by different actors. It is a kind of drama or a play that is usually played in provinces like in Bulacan during the time of Holy Week. ]in Hagonoy, Bulacan, Senakulo happens every year. It is played by professional or youth actors. It is noticeable how the actors are playing good as well. Every year is different. It is beautiful, well prepared as may see it, from the staff, stage productions, costumes, the scripts and even the characters were amazing. This year, Senakulo will be presented in a different way. Pretty sure that it would be fantastic. That will be exciting. That will be a great idea especially for the kids in the younger ages. They will know what happen to the history of Jesus before he was crucified in the cross for us.
